a pretty spring floral arrangement painting by Amie Freling Colorful Spring Kitchen Decor

Recently i’ve been waking up every morning throwing opening the curtains and cringing at the sight of snow. Snow is beautiful up to January 1st and after that I’m pretty much done with it. Fast forward three months and still cursing at flurries I had no choice other than to go full throttle with Spring indoors. Welcome to The Spring Kitchen Blog Hop! We sure are glad you are joining us today. Make sure you take the whole tour for inspiring Spring decorating. The incredible talented participants are listed at the end of the post…

Our Gathering Spot

This year major changes were made in our kitchen gathering room. If you follow along with me on Instagram you know that a few months ago I sold my beloved large blue armoire. I loved that piece but it was time to go to make room for a fresh look.  Walls for art in a California ranch are few and far between and I wanted to add COLOR. Just the other day I decided to paint this large floral canvas art. Yes, I painted this in one afternoon. There’s nothing to get the fires going more than a Spring kitchen blog post deadline. LOL

Come On In!

Here’s the view from our front door. It’s a large open space on any given day is flooded with light.

Along with the armoire we donated our hand-me-down loveseat. To replace these items I didn’t need to look any further than my favorite furniture store Raymour & Flanigan. The new loveseat needed to have a beautiful profile since it was the first thing you see coming in the front door.

What Goes Around, Come’s Around

In came the Chatwick loveseat with it’s romantic sloped arms, deep comfortable cushions and nailhead trim in a custom black-and-white houndstooth fabric. My Instagram followers help me pick this fabric since I had such a difficult time deciding which one I loved best. There were so many fabric options! The funny thing is that my parents had this same fabric on their sofa when I was a kid. For me there was nothing more comforting.

Rolling Up The Red Carpet

I rolled up my grandparents red and navy Persian carpet and made way for a lighter Calvin Klein 100% Natural Woven Area Rug. I was hesitant about going light but it’s sand color and all  natural materials make it easy for cleanup. You can see it’s become a favorite of someone else in our house!

The More The Merrier

This loveseat is my favorite spot to enjoy my morning coffee and peruse through emails. In addition to blankets and the two oversized pillows that came with the sofa I ordered two grass green velvet down filled pillows. I have always had a love affair with velvet pillows and anything green so they WERE a necessity!  After all you can never have too many accent pillows.

Replacing the large armoire is the Banning 72-inch TV Console. It came in a beautiful rustic reclaimed wood finish with 4 louvered doors. This was more more than enough space that I needed to hold all my fine china, serviceware, and bar essentials. I often talk about investing in pieces that have multiple uses at my Design & Unwind events. This TV console makes a ideal sideboard. On holidays  it’s the perfect spot to set up cocktails or a dessert bar.

Flanking my Spring bouquet painting are two black and white striped lamps tying in the graphic elements of the houndstooth fabric. I added more green elements with a large recycled glass vase, a ceramic leaf vase, a tiny succulent filled hedgehog and the Flare Wire Candleholder Set.

In the center of the gathering room hangs a large gray washed wood carved chandelier. This was a favorite purchase of mine a few years ago. We have it on a dimmer switch and late night when all the lights are off I turn it on low. It casts the most beautiful glow. Directly under the chandelier is another piece that I have been eyeing for a while. I have always been intrigued with concrete furniture and the Epicenters Cocktail Table was one piece that I had to have. I couldn’t believe how durable the finish is. The kids use it as a bench, kick their feet up on, play games and using a coaster is always optional.  It was the ideal finishing touch to match the chandelier’s round shape.

Kitchen Details

Last December we embarked on our kitchen makeover with new quartz counters, a large stainless steel sink, new faucet and bright white classic subway tiles. This Spring it was about adding colorful Spring decorative touches. Under the TV I added a large blue vase, vintage pottery and a whimsical black and white striped tin planter filled with faux grasses and blooming poppies.  Adding pattern play underfoot is a bright turquoise and green striped wool runner.

Spring Cleaning

I had neglected my open shelving for a longtime and it became a catchall for all kitchen gadgets without a home. These shelves were revamped and restyled using my cherished cookbooks and vintage, handmade ceramics. and patterned dinnerware.

My two deconstructed linen and burlap chairs got new matching embroidered Spring floral down filled pillows. More pillows!

Feng Shui Tip

*Did you know that it’s recommended to have a live plant near a sink and back door to prevent money from going down the drain or out the door too fast.

I wouldn’t consider myself a Rae Dunn collector but I just couldn’t pass up these adorable Spring glassed from her popular line of dinnerware.

Pops Of Color

Our gathering room is not quit finished. Some things you can’t control like my contractor not being able to fit me in in time for this post. Still to come is the shiplap wood treatment to our side fireplace. When we renovated our home 10 years ago there was a 60’s gas grill just to the right of the painting.  I am so happy that we kept some of the old house charm. We now use it for a candle fireplace and the copper tin roof is still one my favorite features.

Though the furniture and accessories have changed this spot will forever be the heart of the home where I kick off my shoes and relax.

How do you plan on adding Spring touches to your home? Whether it’s new furniture, fresh or faux flowers, bright cheery art or colorful accessories adding Spring colors can brighten your home after a long dreary Winter.

I couldn’t be any happier with our comfortable new furniture and bight happy accessories. My contractor will be here in a few weeks to put up the shiplap and then the room is 100% complete. I hope you come back around to see the finished product. Until then enjoy your Spring kitchen time and stay on the sunny side of the room.

    Amie,
Love all your spring touches, and I can’t believe you painted your gorgeous masterpiece in one afternoon! I used to do that for Art School, but haven’t attempted it in many years.
So, fun that you had a similar sofa growing up! I guess things imprint on us, and we return to our roots!
Thanks for joining our tour this month, you always add a breath of sunshine!

The new loveseat is stunning and it fits perfectly with the new painting that you just whipped up … I have never seen a side fireplace like yours and I have to agree that things like that become the favorite ones because they add so much character to a home. I was flabbergasted when I saw you painting that large piece in one afternoon on IG stories. But then again, not that surprised!! It looks perfect there and it really does feel like Spring indoors even if you’re still getting inundated with snow. Here’s to warmer weather, my friend! I love your home. It’s so you!
