We call them Lower Levels now…not basements or cellars.

When I think of basements I think of my grandparent’s stone and pitched walled cellar that was covered with cobwebs and dust and had a rickety ladder going down.  With the exception of a few canning jars the basement was bare and not visited very often. Well, the basement has come a long way and is an important part of home buying today. Homes with finished lower levels are very appealing to new home buyers. These spaces are now used for in law quarters, entertaining, man caves and much more. At the Newport model at Wilshire Hill in Pittsford, NY we made sure this space was bright, comfortable and super family friendly. The back walls were built with tall windows to let all the light in and to bring the outdoors in. A large open staircase leading down opened up from the first floor and invites you down. This lower level was designed for family fun and entertainling. Below are the images  of this 2300+ sq. foot lower level equipped with a guest room, full bath, bar and entertaining area, living room, project and game table, storage closets and tons of unfinished space for storage and all home mechanics.
