Tween to Teen Bedroom Ideas

There comes a time when you child room changes from tween to teen. Gone are the pink walls and peace signs. My daughter Chloe was no exception. The more pink the better and I embraced her love of color and pattern and ran with it. We started with a daybed and trundle and added pieces either homemade, hand me down, or thrifted. It was colorful and fun and the heart/peace sign movement lasted until Chloe came to me and said  “Mom, I’m not into color so much anymore. I like white!” GASP! I knew that day would come.  I had 12 years of decorating the way that I wanted and now it was time for her to have her say. Here’s a look back at how her room was and what we have planned for her teen room makeover:

Tween Room Decor

I painted a huge 5 by 5 feet canvas combining the heart, peace sign and her name. A large C marquee letter light rescued from a restaurant remodel that we converted into a night light.  Bright patterned pillows, bedding and Romero Britto art fill the room.

A white hand me down dresser from a client, black and white accessories, chartreuse pom pom window panels, thrift store dog bookends that I spray painted and more Britto signed art.

A thrifted hard top suitcase meets a TV table and make for the perfect nightstand. Lime green paint and a raspberry colored handle.

A super sized doll house that my father made got painted turquoise and became Chloe’s bookcase. A hand painted box from my art show circuit days hold treasures.

Shopping for Teen Furniture

When it came time to discuss Chloe’s new room makeover we turned to our friends at Raymour and Flanigan. I knew that she could find the sophisticated style and I love the quality that would last her for years to come. As in all my design approaches we chose a mix and match of whites, blacks and golds with pops of color. We’re both excited to share our vision of her ideal teen room and full reveal in a few days.

Willow dresser and Willow NightstandA white classic large dresser and nightstand for all her clothes and accessories. Beautiful felt lined top drawers for collectibles and jewelry.

Hi there! I absolutely love what you’ve done with your daughters room. I’m in the process of trying to recreate this look & I wanted to know if you remembered where you purchased the bookshelf from??

Hi I can’t remember the manufacturer. I bought them in Altanta years ago. When she wakes up I’ll try to find a manufacturer sticker.
