Uses for Old Suitcases
There are so many creative possibilities for old suitcases! Recently my daughter Chloe was been looking for a new bedside table with ample storage for all her collections. Unlike me, she likes everything new, trendy and hip. All of which ends up costing a pretty penny. So when I came across a vintage suitcase at the thrift store for $2 and a TV table for $1. I knew just what to do.
Creative Nightstand Ideas
I predrilled four holes inside on the bottom of the suitcase. I then attached it to the top of the TV table using 1″ wood screws. I wanted to make the table portable so I made sure that the handle was facing on the top side of the table when folded down.
I removed any excess dirt and dust with a solvent cleaner. After letting it dry completely I taped off the hinges and locks with Scotch 3M Painter’s Tape. I then painted the old suitcase a fresh coat of Satin Sherwin William paint in Overt Green SW 6718 . Looking for a little pop I painted the handle a raspberry purple that complimented the colors in her curtains. I added some garage sale dog bookends that got a fresh coat of turquoise Rustoleum spray paint.
I let all the pieces dry completely before taking them into the house. We placed the old suitcase turned nightstand right next to Chloe’s bed and she immediately started storing all her goodies. IT was that simple!
Other ideas could be stacking tow or three on top of one another to create a side or end table that has even more storage. Recently I found a pair of crocodile suitcases at a thrift store in Southern Florida. I paid a bit more for them but they are definitely conversation pieces.
