I couldn’t be happier to share the kitchen that I’ve been working on for the past 10 months. As I mentioned in the last blog post Teen Turquoise Bedroom the Newport is a ranch home in Pittsford, New York built by Pride Mark Homes And Morrell Builders. I was fortunate to design this model home that I affectionately call The Nautical Nomadic. Think of a sailor from Newport traveling the world collecting souvenirs from all his worldly portal stops. A classic nautical undertone with global accents without being too beachy. I chose a clean neutral palette with pops of color and pattern. A color palette reflecting the sea, sky, stones and sand.
In the kitchen, I chose the color DOVE by Wellborn Cabinets. A perfect gray that is not too warm, too cool, or too dark. I double stacked them and gave the top smaller cabinets glass doors for display accents and creating height to bring your eye up. A corner open shelving accessorized with cookbooks, white ceramic pottery and wooden accents break up the space. Two large 2- light polished chrome and glass globe Cadence pendants from Murray Feiss hang over the island.
A Misty Carrera Quartz countertop resembling a white Carrera marble keeps the surfaces bright, clean, and classic. Classic bright white ice 3 by 6 beveled subway tiles go all the way to the ceiling, a chrome semi-commercial Blanco Meridian single handle pull down sprayer faucet , Blanco Cantata Chrome Pot Filler Faucet and a stainless steel gas 6- burner commercial range oven from Wolf make this cooks kitchen the heart of the home.
To the right of the entrance to the pantry I added an “Undertone” 22 by 8 petite beverage sink by Kohler. It’s small and narrow size makes it perfect for holding ice, wine and soda for entertaining. The X wine shelf above makes this beverage center functional and compact.
The butler’s pantry which runs the entire length of the kitchen is divided into two parts. A communication center( shown) with large open shelving that is seen from the great room. Four large file cabinets makes this the ideal Mom Central while looking neat and stylish. I matched the wood shelves and gave an extra durable surface by using Wilsonart Palisades Oak Woodgrain. Its difficult to tell the difference! The styles of laminates out there today that resemble woodgrains blows me away! The other side has complete floor to ceiling white cabinetry with built in microwave and space for larger home appliances. Additional counters make this the perfect landing ground for supplies, groceries and projects meant to be out of sight.
A large polished nickel uplight from Hudson Valley takes center stage over the white slipcovered chairs piped in chocolate brown and a dark wood trestle table. The gathering room has a full view of the parklike landscaped backyard and large covered balcony patio.
When it came to styling the counters and shelves I chose a palette of silvers, woods and whites. I scattered colored glass and organic materials for a modern earthy feel. Most of these accessories were found at HomeGoods. Hamilton Bentwood Napa counter stools from Home Decorator’s Collection and classic Cadence pendant lights from Hudson Valley Lighting round out this kitchen of my dreams. I only wish I it was mine! Thanks for coming by. xoxAMie
