Maddie’s Dream Navy and White Teen Room Suite Makeover

Teen Dream Suite

Maddie had just about had it with tween pink and was ready for a teen navy and white room  makeover. So out went the light green walls and hot pink accessories and in came the sophisticated navy blue, silvery gray and turquoise accents. Let me start by saying that Maddie’s room is not just a room but an entire suite! A 2-room haven that was previously a bonus room and then after an addition became a 400 square foot cozy retreat with a light filled dormer window and two closets to rival any master bedroom.

Shopping for Bedding

We first started by picking out a navy and white damask bedding set from PB Teen for our inspiration. We freshened up the trim by painting it Sherwin Williams Super White and walls in Sherwin Williams Evening Shadow (SW7662). A perfect silverly gray that has a hint of blue in certain lights. This color scheme would take her well into her college years! Out went the frilly pink curtains and new blackout blinds and navy grommet sailcloth curtain panels from PB Teen were added. Maddie did her share of homework cleaning out her double bookcases and decided that one would be dedicated an art and craft area. She tied turquoise ribbons on mason jars that hold all her art supplies. A mini chalkboard reads “Star in your own Life”. Silver metal baskets hold addition smaller art and school supplies and on the opposite wall a large whitewashed bulletin board.

After Maddie bagged up her stuffed animals from the window seat we headed out shopping in search of some fun shaped pillows with lots of texture, color and bling. A turquoise love pillow finds its home on a Sherpa covered bean bag from Pottery Barn Kids. Metal initial letters from Michael’s Craft Store fit perfectly above the dormer window shelf and a wooden sign from HomeGoods reminds Maddie to BE AWESOME TODAY!

A custom made corner desk was repurposed into a makeup and nail station. We found a mod acrylic and metal chair from WayFair, fun gray and navy storage baskets from HomeGoods for all her supplies and repurposed mom’s mirror by adding navy gross grain ribbon. Ceramic jars from Michael’s hold cotton balls,Q -Tips and hair ties.  A simple painted piece of moulding gets small cup screws and is the perfect display for Maddie’s favorite jewelry. A blinged out crystal shaded lamp form Target round out the Make-up corner.

Custom Dance Art

Still staying true to Maddie’s love of dance I painted her a custom canvas painting for over her bed.  You can never have too many pillows so we added more sequins, embroidered, and body pillows for lounging.  Now Maddie’s room is the place to be- even for her twin brother Brendan who’s now retinking the room switch he made. Maddie’s told me she loves the way her room turned out and her mom Karen said “Gee, if I knew that a room makeover would help keep her room so clean we would have done this years ago!”

UPDATE:To this day this Maddie’s room is one of my most pinned room’s on Pinterest. It has also been included on Shutterfly.com most amazing kids rooms. To see this room along with two others of my designs click here!

Hi Deborah. The bean bag was a large one and the canvas costs $150+ depending on the size that you need. You can email me for further info on specific sizes. The one in the image is 2 by 2. thanks Amie
