They say that the kitchen is the heart of the home and isn’t that truth! I spend so much time in our kitchen that I affectionately call it “my office.” It’s the first room that you see when you enter our home and I always like to welcome Christmas by going all out with the decorations.

Nestled in between the kitchen and dining area is my favorite spot, the morning room. Every morning I sit with a cup of tea, read my emails, and catch up on instagram. This past Fall, I swapped out our light beige carpet for a bright green wool rug.  For those cold Winter months don’t forget to add cozy blankets and down filled pillows. I love to layer on the patterns. The more the merrier. I have some fun changes to this area that I will share later on in December! You won’t want to miss that. Make sure to get a sneak peek on my IG stories

With 12 foot ceiling in our kitchen, a large black island with white quartz counter anchors the room. I added fresh pine mini wreaths to the backs of the farmhouse counter stools with a classic white and red grossgrain ribbon.

For most meals especially breakfast we eat at the island. I fell in love with these boxwood chargers from Wisteria Flowers and Gifts. They add just the right amount of greenery and are the perfect foundation for my whimsical red, white and gold handmade mugs and plates also from Wisteria.

Favorite Christmas Cookbook

Every Sunday my daughter Chloe and I love to bake. Most times we bake simple chocolate chip cookies, other times it’s homemade pies and cakes. My new favorite holiday cookbook is Jamie Oliver’s Christmas Cookbook. The recipes are so delicious and remarkably easy to make. What do you think about caramels made with bourbon? Sounds enticing to me! That’s next on my baking list. I’ve added Jamie’s book to my Meme Hill Christmas Favorites list. Make sure that you check it out, I’ve checked it twice.

Christmas Trees in the Kitchen

Just last year was the first year that I started collecting glass food related ornaments. It all started with a sweet little three tiered macaroon ornament that my mother gifted me. Slowly I started collecting all my favorite foods and anything kitchen related. It’s my favorite whimsical mini tree that greets us in the morning. I have it front and center of our corner window. At night it becomes a nightlight. My girlfriend Kelly texted me the other day saying that she saw it as she drove by. It was her first Christmas tree sighting! Ain’t too proud to turn the Christmas tree lights on before Thanksgiving? When do you decorate for Christmas?

A super large bottle brush tree and my German nutcrackers sit on top of our sideboard. Fresh greens are placed in the serving bowls for a fresh pine smell. I picked up this coordinating plaid printed bag at HomeGoods this weekend. Its my new Winter grocery bag! I have already received tons of compliments.

I added two candle lanterns and a pine garland on top of my $200 craigslist find. I know what you’re thinking. No, It do didn’t look like this when I rescued this piece from a barn across town. Some creative carpentry skills from my father and a quart one step paint from Amy Howard at Home made her a perfect match for our tall ceilings.

It’s no secret I have been obsessed with plaid for a few years now and well I don’t see me tiring of it anytime soon. It’s such a friendly pattern and works with so many decor styles. My signature style is to layer. Let’s take a closer look at our farmhouse table all set for Christmas dinner…plaid tablecloth, farmhouse christmas

Tall ceiling call for tall centerpieces- but not too big that you can see across the table. These three moss and snow covered trees draw you in and can easily be removed once dinner starts. Later you can see a glimpse of the white birch bases.

I brought out my white and gold Orefors glass candlesticks, hand painted holly water glasses and gold flatware to the mix.

Mixing High and Low Dinnerware

These days its difficult to tell the difference between inexpensive dinnerware and the really good stuff! Here I have layered inexpensive white and red salad plates with my Richard Ginori wedding china. The touch of gold and white tie the two together.

Working in with my love of pattern play Red and white pinstripe Kate Spade Deck The Halls cloth napkins add additional pops of red. Every time that I am out shopping it seems that anything Kate Spade catches my eye. She was and will be one of my all time favorite designers. Happy Holidays embossed crisp white note cards in plaid sleeves were sent out to my favorite calligraphy artist Olivia at RocPenInkI discovered Olivia’s gorgeous modern handwriting through my daughter Chloe. If you’re looking for something special written whether an invitation or note cards Olivia’s work is so lavishing artistic! I can’t wait to share what she helped me with in my morning room!

Lastly, striped Christopher Radko mini glass ornaments are tied with black and white string to each place card setting. No two place settings are alike but all blend and compliment one another. The table is set and ready for our family Christmas Dinner! Now onto the menu!

Christmas Theme

In past years i’ve tried to think outside the box and work with unusual color themes. I have loved them all but this year I was drawn to the traditional red and green. Do you stick to the same colors each year? Try weaving these colors throughout your home for a more cohesive look.  This year we have decorated pretty much every room on our home and I have a blog post for all of them! Make sure you subscribe to my email list so you don’t miss a thing! UP NEXT a closer look at our Morning Room decorated for Christmas.

  1. […] I turned to my friend Olivia Marsh from RocPenInk for some creative calligraphy handwriting. She worked her magic on the quote so that I could enlarged it onto my canvas. The whole painting took under and hour to paint. Several of you have asked for a print so I am working on making that happen. Olivia also created personalized place card setting for our Christmas dinner table that I shared last week on our Christmas Kitchen Home Tour.  […]
