Are you building a home? Tour this bright and airy Hampton’s inspired rustic modern cottage home with loads of warm woods, grays, navy and bright whites If you’ve ever built a house you know it’s a loads of work with hundreds of decisions! There are so many things to take into consideration: where to put the outlets and switches, how high the ceilings should be, what kind of moldings, what colors and materials to use, not to mention the floor plan and exterior features. It goes on and on!  That’s why I am happy to be showing you my latest build that is FINALLY completed!

Welcome to Greenpoint Trail, a 3,200 square-foot home located on the prestigious links of the LPGA Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford, New York.  My goal for this one story home was to create a light airy feel with its architecture and furnishings;  coastal inspiration without being beachy. Before building this house I turned 350 miles East to The Hampton’s for inspiration. Working with a substantial sized budget allowed me to select the captivating features including arch doorways, tray ceilings, marble, lush wall covering, large wide plank harwood floors and innovative home technology. I chose a color palette of rich whites, warm grays, cool woodtones and all shades of blue.

Foyer and Architectural Details

A detailed painted gray chest greets you in the large spacious foyer. In this home where there are several sharp angles I try to soften the angles with round elements. The first is the circular accents of the center of each drawer to the the arched doorways that take you into the great room . Above the Adrian accent chest I purchased a modern abstract piece of art made from veneered wood and watercolor papers that make up a mountain landscape. A simple white ceramic and lucite lamp adds extra light.

The Great Room

This room with it vaulted 18′ the ceiling with three rustic knotty cedar beams whitewashed bring your eyes up. Continuing with my circular theme I purchased barrel chairs and counter stool. Turnbury island pendants and a large Turnbury 6-light chandelier from Progress Lighting add rustic charm and task lighting. These open reclaimed wood and metal pendant lights bring your eyes back down to the island and dining area without being too big and bulky. The entire great room and hallways are painted in Sherwin William SW7628 Windfresh White. As one of my go-to whites, Windfresh White is a soft greige off-white that changes it’s look in different lights and goes well with both gray and beige.

White Kitchen Cabinets

The Rockport grayish rustic alder Island and hood by Showplace Cabinetry are a stark contrast to the Savannah white painted perimeter cabinetry. I chose a polished nickel knob and handle and Artezo Bridge farmhouse faucet by Brizo. Double stacking these cabinets and adding an array of accent lights make the kitchen the showcase of the great room. With one touch of the switch panel the entire room can dim or turn off.

Anchoring the massive island is Zodiac quartz Calcutta Natura counter with a detailed ogee edge. This counter has the feel of marble with a soft veining and subtle shades of gray and whites. Three Task gray denim barrel back and nail head swivel counter stools fit perfectly under the island and add a bit of shimmer while keeping its relaxed elegance. Long Carbon gray blackout lined linen window panels frame out the windows and add drama.

Statement Wood Hoods

Highlighted by the glass cabinet doors are cobalt blue, white and copper dinnerware. A gray decorative tile feature draws attention to the range and statement hood. Can you tell I like balance?

Dining in Style

Demi john glass bottles in shades of green and blue create a simple colorful table arrangement.  A built-in buffet server with glass doors and open shelving highlights copper,  turquoise and cobalt glass, and blue Delph dinnerware.

Six barrel back gray linen Carter dining chairs with nailheads surround the Tuscan Spring Dining Table with built-in leaf. The low backs of the chairs allow a clear view of the golf course just outside the dining window. The sturdy frame with sloping legs give these dining chairs a softer look.

Seeing Blue

On the opposite side of the kitchen is a tiled fireplace with painted blue accent wall. By painting the surround of the fireplace Sherwin Williams Refuge SW 6228 it creates of a visual impact that ties in with the blue theme. I use Refuge again in the mudroom cubbies. I hand-painted a modern art canvas to add visual interest. You might’ve seen on my Instagram stories This little art project was completed in under four hours!

Quality Furniture

Facing the fireplace is the statement Epicenters Sofa with a leather belt buckle sides grey washed denim and rustic wood frame. This gorgeous sofa was too pretty to be a “wallflower!” She had to be front and center in the middle of the room to show off her sassy features.

Industrial Chic

The Elements metal coffee table and end table add and industrial touch and sit on top an organic cotton natural jute rug. Two Monroe accent chairs  flank the fireplace and invite you in with their leather tufted backs and rustic wooden frames.

Farmhouse Style Shelving

Against the only large wall without a window I added the Toscana bookshelf. Accessorizing this wooden ladder shelving unit are books, grasses, organic wicker baskets, green glass candle votives, and metal and ceramic planters. Decorating with books is an extremely affordable way to accessorize shelves.  Instead of emphasizing the spine of the books, I turned all the books around so that the rough edges and raw bindings would show. I posted on my Facebook page asking friends for unwanted books and the books came rolling in. Free decor is always good!

A Room With A View

Just outside the living area through a 12 foot slider door is a large covered porch. In the Summer months this becomes an extension of the living room.  A wire curtain cable holds striped sheer panels. Under this outdoor living room set is it all weather indoor/outdoor rug in a gray abstract motif. The neutral durable, weather resistant gray Sunbrella cushions allowed me to accessorize with several different colors. I added green and blue accent pillows and glass candle votives. The lush tree lined golf course provided a colorful background and added privacy.

Master Bedroom

Moving into the master bedroom I dressed the walls with a Thibaut metallic silver and gray wallpaper. This gorgeous paper stands on its own and adds a sophisticated pattern and contrast to the white trim and light carpet. The Auberge upholstered bed and matching bachelor chests on both sides of the bed create a calming balance and tranquility to this light filled room. Adding shimmer and playing off the mirrored bedside lamps is the Status Chandelier from Progress with its polished charm frame, crystal orbs, and linen fabric shades.

Marble Stacked stone

The bed faces a Carrera marble rough stacked stone gas fireplace. Bookshelves on each side hold mercury glass candlesticks, silver linen storage boxes, books and other architectural accessories.

I created a one-of-a-kind original art by hand painting a bluejay on a branch. This watercolor art was first drawn on a piece of paper from a gardening book that I found thrifting and then framed.

A Spa-Like Retreat

Right off the master bedroom is the opulent master bath with floor to ceiling hexagon Carrera marble tiles on the entire wall. Granite countertops and bright Delta Victorian chrome faucets and polished nickel hardware shine against the granite counter. Two beveled mirrors from HomeGoods reflect the large walk-in basket weave Carrera marble tiled shower. A 3-light version of the Status chandelier ties in the look with the master bedroom.

Damask Navy Wallpaper

It’s safe to say that the guest bedroom is my favorite room by far! I’m a big fan of mixing patterns and this was my opportunity to showcase everything I had. The Maria, a white linen and nailhead upholstered bed is a stark contrast against the white and  Arcadia San Remo Damask Thibaut wallpaper. A mirrored cut out wooden chest serves as a nightstand. It echoes the wire brushed white oak floors in the rest of the home. Blue and white striped bedding from Tommy Hillfiger is layered with striped and batik embroidered accent pillows.

A rustic fold out table seconds as a desk. Layering as many blue and white patterns as I could I kept in mind scale, size and texture so that the each pattern complimented the others.

Get to Work

The office may be small on space but bug on style. A wall of open simple sleek shelves hold books, accessories and greenery. The rich navy blue grass cloth wallpaper is by Joanna Gaines and is a new addition to The Magnolia Market Collection made by York Wallcoverings. The wallpaper book had just hits the shelves at my local SW store!

Home Office

Greeting you as you enter the home and centered in the middle of the room is the Palma writing desk with pull out side shelves. Behind the desk is the Ginette swivel chair. You all know that I am a big fan of slipcovers and the fact that it was a swivel was a no brainer for me to buy it! It softens the space and is so comfortable.

There’s so much more to see and be inspired if you’re building a house. More bathrooms, a killer statement laundry room, a whole full finished basement, and even an entire new home right next door!   I’ve chosen my very favorites and combined them all into two households. I’d love to hear what you think!

Now are you ready to head back West for some California Living? How about visiting Sheila from Maison de Cinq. She had some great changes that she has made to her kitchen.

Hey there! Love your work. I am working on a lake house office and love what you did with the palma desk. I have something similar and would love to find a similar upholstered chair. You mention the “Ginette Swivel” but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. Can you tell me who makes it?
